THE TIFFANY DIAMOND
LADY GAGA SHINES IN THE TIFFANY DIAMOND ON THE OSCAR RED CARPET
Lady Gaga walked the Oscar Red Carpet in a black Alexander McQueen gown with matching elbow length gloves, but it was her jewellery that captured everyone’s attention as she was wearing the Tiffany Diamond that hadn’t been seen outside of the Tiffany vault since it was seen on Audrey Hepburn during a photoshoot whilst she was promoting Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
The gorgeous sunshine yellow cushion brilliant cut Tiffany Diamond weights 128.54 carats and features 82 facets, that’s 24 more facets than the traditional brilliant cut. It reportedly dates back to 1878 and was purchased by Charles Lewis Tiffany himself and he decided early on that the diamond wouldn't be sold and would be shared with the public and he put it on display in the Tiffany store for all to enjoy.
The Tiffany Diamond has been set in a number of ways over the years, the most noticeably Schlumberger Ribbon Rosette Necklace famously worn by Audrey Hepburn. In celebration of Tiffany’s 175th Anniversary in 2012 the Tiffany Diamond was set in an astonishing diamond necklace with over 100 carats of gemstones. It was this necklace that was modified for Lady Gaga.
“Lady Gaga is the ultimate creator, innovator and rule breaker, and I’m thrilled that she will be wearing the legendary Tiffany Diamond on the awards show red carpet for the first time since it was discovered 141 years ago” said Reed Krakoff, Tiffany & Co.
